Year after year, hundreds of movies are created and released to the world to view and enjoy. Although, it takes more than just actors, a camera, and a script to write a movie. It takes time and dedication, in which all these actor and actress nominees have put into their films. The Oscars isn’t about race, it’s about giving the actors who have done the hard work the credit they deserve, and there may be other films that were great out there, but they weren’t Oscar worthy; therefore, not good enough. The categories for the Oscars are long in numbers, though what many views enjoy the most are the actor and actress categories for best actor/actress. However, there are also many other categories, such as films, directors, animated, script, the list goes on. This list is the top predictions for the actor and actress category.
4. Jennifer Jason Leigh
Nominated for her role in The Hateful Eight for the best-supporting actress. She did a fantastic job in the film as the movie was solely based off of dialogue over action. However, she is going up against Kate Winslet for her role in Steve Jobs, though Winslet did win a Golden Globe for the same role. Jennifer Jason Leigh was also nominated for a Golden Globe but lost to Winslet. Leigh isn’t the only one eyes are shooting at for the win as Rooney Mara (Carol), Rachel McAdams (Spotlight), and Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl) are also nominated. The question is, could she lose her chance at her first Oscar?
3. Tom Hardy
Any movie he does, he puts his all into it. Acting comes so naturally to Tom Hardy that this win is deserved by a long shot. He’s nominated for his role in The Revenant, opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, for best supporting actor. He has never won a Golden Globe nor has he ever won an Oscar, his roles alone are very heavy and breathtaking as this actor goes above and beyond to keep his audience intrigued. Tom Hardy is going up against Christian Bale for his supporting role in The Big Short, although Bale has won an Oscar in 2011 for his role in The Fighter, and was nominated in 2014 for his leading role in American Hustle as well as this year. Tom Hardy is going up against many other actors such as Mark Ruffalo (Spotlight), Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies), as well as Sylvester Stallone for his supporting role in Creed as Rocky Balboa, in which Stallone has won the Golden Globe this year for his role and may take the win away from Tom Hardy.
2. Cate Blanchet
The Aviator and in 2014 for Blue Jasmine. Although many other actresses are Oscar-worthy as Blanchet is, such as, Brie Larson (Room), Jennifer Lawrence, who has won an Oscar in 2014 for her role in Silver Linings Playbook (Joy), Charlotte Rampling (45 Years), and Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn). The question is, does Blanchet deserve a third win, does Lawrence deserve another, or shall the Oscar go to someone who has never won before? This two-time Oscar winner is going for her third this year for her leading role in Carol, she won in 2005 for
1. Leonardo Dicaprio
No one deserves a win like Leonardo DiCaprio does as he has been nominated five times starting in 1994 for his supporting role in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, in 2005 for his leading role in The Aviator, 2007 for his leading role in Blood Diamond, in 2014 he was nominated for leading role in The Wolf on Wall Street, and this year, he is nominated again. It’s not like he has never won awards before, as he has won two Golden Globes one for his role in The Departed as and the other one for his role in The Revenant. However, he is up against many other deserving actors, but the question is, are they deserving as he is? There’s Bryan Cranston (Trumbo), Matt Damon (The Martian), Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs), and Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl).
